For this photography project I am out in search of individuals interested in openly revealing their scars along with their related narratives. The aim of my project is to shed light on the variety of stories connected with scars as lifelong companions of human beings facing psychological problems, traumatic surgeries, minor accidents, or strenuous births, without judging the impact the stories had or have in each life.
The images on the one hand express the vulnerability of the human being, yet at the same time conveying its power, displaying raw, naked skin while simultaneously touching the innermost part of the person portrayed.
One particularly challenging and fascinating element with regard to the difficulties that people often encounter when viewing skin openings lies in the tightrope walk of the question as to when a photograph of a scar appears aesthetic and where it might fail to be aesthetic and thus slide into the realm of medical science.
